Hello guys :).

This is my first ever blog post and I hope you enjoy it.

Why I started to learn to hack? How I got started ? How difficult is it ? What are some common misconceptions about hacking ?How is the InfoSec community towards a newbie?.

so lets dive right into answering these questions :).

Why I started to learn to hack ?

I secured myself a seat in the undergraduate program at NIT Warangal after surviving the JEE examinations . I had some time left before the college semester could begin . Why did I say surviving (¬_¬ ) ?

So I started thinking about career prospects . Though I always got an adrenaline rush while thinking about hacking.

Since i had some connections with a few people who were into ethical hacking and were doing tremendously great , I had some inspiration already to get into this field. By connections I don't mean to say that I had already great networks with people at big companies . They were just my family friends XD.

So like every other noob i started bothering them with many questions . And they were very supportive in that though I didn't realize how busy they were . So they suggested me to start reading The Web Application Hacker’s Handbook.

Now here comes the first lesson of my life which i got from my mentor XD .

“No one can teach you how to hack . Hacking is completely a self learn process. You just have to have that curiosity and learn on your own through various resources”

Now you might be a bit confused , like how suggesting a book could be the first lesson of that sort.

It is because of the fact that the book which my mentor suggested me is a advanced book and not at all newbie friendly XD. Hope you get my point .

So to answer the question as of why I started learning to hack is because I was fascinated towards it , was curious to learn and make a career in it .

How I got started ?

You would get my point as to why I put this image here👆 .

I bought myself a course at Udemy thinking that this one course would make me like Kevin Mitnick . XD

I started into network hacking and started running commands with various tools as directed by the tutor of that course .

I soon was able to do really cool things like getting the password of different Wi-Fi’s around me , disconnecting user from their networks, creating fake access points i.e. fake Wi-Fi , doing man in the middle attacks and other cool stuffs using tools such as nmap, Wireshark, Metasploit and many more.

But soon I realized that I was just running some commands without even knowing the basics . I lacked the basic knowledge of Linux and the knowledge of networking which are the key ingredients of hacking .

That said I then switched to learning from may other sources about Linux ,networking concepts and knowing about other tools that are used in hacking . so now you might get my point about that picture.

I would try to explain what the picture meant :-

I thought that a single course could make me ‘HACKER ME’ . But that is fallacy , instead the learning process is completely a zig zag unpredictable pattern .

But that said , I would not say that taking that course was a mistake , Instead it showed me the bright spots of hacking and embraced the questioning attitude in me . And most importantly …

“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.”

AND..

“The beginning is always NOW.”

Thank you for reading this long :) . Hope you enjoyed it . This blog got way too long then expected XD.

So better I bother you with my story for the remaining questions which I intended to answer in the coming blogs :D

PEACE
